Accounting is one of the most convenient starting positions for moving into IT: you already know bookkeeping, document workflows and data discipline. All that's left is to add a technical layer — and the job market opens up anew.
Three realistic routes
1. 1C analyst. The shortest path: your knowledge of postings and reporting is half the profession. You add the platform, the query language and requirements work.
2. 1C consultant. Implementing and supporting configurations for clients: lots of communication, business trips, fast income growth at system integrators.
3. Data analyst. If you like the numbers themselves: you already know Excel, you add SQL, BI tools and the basics of statistics.
What NOT to do
Don't start with a "trendy" Python or web development course just because it's popular: your accounting experience barely counts there, and you'll be competing with twenty-year-old juniors on equal terms.
A plan for the first six months
- Choose your route and profession (see our "Professions" section).
- Take a retraining course with practice on real cases.
- Start applying your new skills right at your current job — automate your own reports.
- Update your resume: accounting experience + new skills = a strong application for a junior position.
